A second round of was fairly common during my pregnancy—much to my scale’s dismay. I’m working on shedding those last impossible pounds. Making it to the gym in the midst of bottle washing, changing diapers and (let’s face it) anything to convince me that I can always go tomorrow has proven itself difficult. In it’s place? Watching what I eat. Central Market has helped make that a tasty task. Below is the recipe for one of their salad creations. It’s flavorful, refreshing… and tastes nothing like diet food. Enjoy!
Spinach Apple Feta Salad
2 Pacific Rose, Jazz or Pink Lady Apples
1/2 cup crumbled Feta Cheese
1/2 cup chopped Honey Toasted Pecans
4 cups Bunch Spinach cleaned and trimmed
Choice of Vinaigrette
Core the apples and cut into thin slices or chunks. Toss the apples, feta, pecans and spinach together in a large bowl. Add dressing to your taste.
I have a confession. I sometimes play dress-up with Max. Not the dress up from my childhood days where I’d raid my mother’s closet and put on her “fancies”—this time around it’s all about my son. I love getting out his nicer outfits and turning him into a sharply dressed man. But when it comes to boys’ clothing there’s a bit of a limitation; there’s just not as much of it out there as there is for the little ladies. If I have a girl next, I fear I might go overboard shopping for her. My first stop? It would definitely be Baby Bean Vintage Daywear. Can I still call them my workout pants if they haven’t seen a gym in over a year? Can I really call it a jogger if I don’t intend on jogging anywhere with it? I’ll have to keep you posted on that one. Max doesn’t fit into it yet, but as soon as he does, I can’t wait to take it all over Dallas. I’m referring to my BOB Ironman Jogger—built for off-road jogging and running. Perhaps it will inspire me to take up a new, healthy hobby. I’ve always secretly wanted to be one of those fit moms running with their joggers around White Rock Lake. But just in case I stick to a slower pace, I’m hoping the hefty off-road stroller will do well around my neighborhood. Or my other favorite place to take a stroll… NorthPark Center. Two of my favorite designers, Stella McCartney (Sir Paul’s daughter, vegan and mom to three already) and Georgina Chapman (owner and designers for Marchesa, and Mrs. Harvey Weinstein), are pregnant. This news via one of the best fashion blogs around, New York Magazine’s The Cut.
Forever 21 has a birth announcement: Love 21. It may not have the same youth appeal as its main brand (and I have to say, I’m a little relieved), but the maternity line, Love 21, seems to be heading back to basics with solids and a touch of small stripes that’s more timeless than trendy.

When my husband gave me free reign over the design of our nursery, I immediately knew I wanted to aim for a vibrant, modern look. A dear friend helped me achieve this when she surprised me with the puffin limited edition print. Its playful illustration is just.. well, cute. And it looks right at home in Max’s room.

As soon as you find out the sex of the baby, the plight to find the perfect name to call your perfect little darling forming inside of you begins. Some will go the traditional route (John, James, Joe or Jacob), and the familial route (William, Wilkie, Walker or Wallace) while others choose the never-heard-of-it-in-that-context-before names that we “ewe” and “aww” over (Sahara, Apple, Moses, Honor and Five…the list could go on and on…).
Two weeks ago at our annual dallaschildbaby model search, we saw over 250 baby faces pass before our judges tables, and the names ranged from Phoenix and Fox (girl and boy twins, respectively) to Matthew and William and everywhere in between. When looking through all the pictures to pick the two babes that will grace our covers, I always get a snapshot of the name trends. This year, I thought I’d share my unscientific survey of the most popular baby names. Gone are most of the “Mc’s” (McKenzie and McKenna), Addisons, and Emmas for the girls (which I find to trend heavier than the boys), and in are…

Today I attempted to take Max to the mall so I could shop for a dress to wear to a wedding this Saturday. He confirmed what I already knew to be true … men don’t like to shop. Max was not the happiest of campers and after many attempts to keep tears away, I picked him up and held him as we made our way through the stores. On one of the occasions I was holding him, I heard a lady behind me say, “How beautiful!” As I turned around (with a beaming grin on my face) I said “Oh, why thank you!”—only to realize she wasn’t talking about Max. She was talking about an Elizabeth & James top on the rack I was standing next to. She looked at me and gave me an uncomfortable grin. And I immediately felt like an idiot. Apparently I’m that mom. The one that is so blinded by her adoration for her son that I assume all compliments given in my general vicinity are intended for him! But I’m OK with it. So if you happen to be standing next to me the next time I assume you’re talking to me … maybe you’ll just humor me.
