I have a confession. I sometimes play dress-up with Max.  Not the dress up from my childhood days where I’d raid my mother’s closet and put on her “fancies”—this time around it’s all about my son. I love getting out his nicer outfits and turning him into a sharply dressed man. But when it comes to boys’ clothing there’s a bit of a limitation; there’s just not as much of it out there as there is for the little ladies. If I have a girl next, I fear I might go overboard shopping for her. My first stop?  It would definitely be Baby Bean Vintage Daywear.  These darling and distinctive girl garments start at size 6 months and are truly one-of-a-kind pieces. Crafted from and inspired by vintage fabrics, they’re simple, modern and would make you want to arrive early to any dress up party.

Visit their website and view the spring/summer 2010 collection available online or at DallasChild favorite, Little Bean Shop.

What about BOB?

Can I still call them my workout pants if they haven’t seen a gym in over a year? Can I really call it a jogger if I don’t intend on jogging anywhere with it?  I’ll have to keep you posted on that one.  Max doesn’t fit into it yet, but as soon as he does, I can’t wait to take it all over Dallas. I’m referring to my BOB Ironman Jogger—built for off-road jogging and running. Perhaps it will inspire me to take up a new, healthy hobby. I’ve always secretly wanted to be one of those fit moms running with their joggers around White Rock Lake. But just in case I stick to a slower pace, I’m hoping the hefty off-road stroller will do well around my neighborhood. Or my other favorite place to take a stroll… NorthPark Center.  If you’re currently searching for a good jogger or stroller, stay tuned.  I’ll be sure to post a review on the BOB Ironman.

1.  delighted, pleased, or glad, as over a particular thing…

beethings, that is!  Cofounders Shay Ometz and Jeff Barfoot make art prints, posters, apparel and products that make them happy.  And we’re certain their goods will make you happy, as well. Almost a year ago, I featured their custom lunch sacks on childish.today, i’m happy to shine the spotlight on this local company again.

When my husband gave me free reign over the design of our nursery, I immediately knew I wanted to aim for a vibrant, modern look. A dear friend helped me achieve this when she surprised me with the puffin limited edition print. Its playful illustration is just.. well, cute.  And it looks right at home in Max’s room.

If you find that you’re on the search for nursery wall decor, visit beethings’online shop and search from birds, owls, monkeys and more to proudly adorn any empty wall space.  You’ll be happy you did.

One Liners

Oh, the attention-getting, corny one-liners often heard at bad cocktail parties—they never get you the kind of attention you want. Why not try a different type of one-liner?  Instead of sympathy laughs and eye rolls, capture something specialmemories to enjoy for years to come.  Mom’s One Line A Day is just the book you need to record a little something each day about your baby.  From the first smile to the first day of kindergarten, this journal is your 5-year memory book with just the right amount of space to jot down one or 2 things unique about each day.

Twenty years from now you’ll be glad you have these heart-warming reminders (and won’t even remember all those reasons the chicken crossed the road).

Am I that mom?

Today I attempted to take Max to the mall so I could shop for a dress to wear to a wedding this Saturday.  He confirmed what I already knew to be true … men don’t like to shop.  Max was not the happiest of campers and after many attempts to keep tears away, I picked him up and held him as we made our way through the stores.  On one of the occasions I was holding him, I heard a lady behind me say, “How beautiful!”  As I turned around (with a beaming grin on my face) I said “Oh, why thank you!”—only to realize she wasn’t talking about Max. She was talking about an Elizabeth & James top on the rack I was standing next to.  She looked at me and gave me an uncomfortable grin.  And I immediately felt like an idiot.  Apparently I’m that mom.  The one that is so blinded by her adoration for her son that I assume all compliments given in my general vicinity are intended for him! But I’m OK with it. So if you happen to be standing next to me the next time I assume you’re talking to me … maybe you’ll just humor me.

You are the epitome of style. Or shall I say … were. Pregnancy does a rather funny thing to your closet, doesn’t it? Those fashion-forward pieces you splurged on not so long ago have now been replaced with garments that resemble the muumuus your grandmother was so fond of wearing. That fabulous style you took pride in—and that once garnered you admiring glances from those around you—are now gone, and the glances you get in their place are less “lookin’ good!” and more “I think that lady is wearing my living room curtains …”

Can you relate? All of you expectant moms out there can breathe a deep sigh of relief. Style expert Amy Tara Koch is here to transform your pregnancy into the ultimate style statement with the help of her new book, Bump It Up! You’ll learn how to “pull together dozens of jaw-dropping maternity ensembles—without breaking the bank.”  Amy says all it takes is a little effort and creativity—and we know you’ve got that.

So let’s all raise our mock-tails and toast to major maternity style from bump to baby!

Supreme Jean

Motherhood has brought out some interesting traits in me. For example – I can now turn anything into a song. I found myself singing to Max about laundry yesterday. Don’t worry … I’ll spare you the lyrics. I’ve also noticed myself a bit more impatient than normal – impatient for my pre-baby body to return, that is! If you’re anything like me (slightly vain) you were troubled by how slow this process can be. With the help of 7 for all mankind, I took matters into my own hands. New to their jean line-up is their first ever “curvy” jean, Kimmie. These life savers sit higher on the waste which allow them to keep that post-baby belly behind closed doors. Muffin-tops are only a good thing when enjoyed over breakfast ladies. They also flair at the calf as opposed to the knee – giving the illusion of a leaner silloutte. Illusion? Yes please.

Available at Neiman Marcus, NorthPark Center.

I’m coming to realize that unique and cool baby boy clothing is much harder to find than baby girl clothing. Thank you, little bean, for giving me independent designers with hard-to-find pieces i won’t see on any other little ones (unless their moms frequent your shop, of course.)
